Scott L Tucker MD updated

– President of Salem Plastic Surgery, Inc., in Winston Salem, North Carolina
– Is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

It is somewhat rare that the occupation that fascinates someone in their youth translates into a lifelong profession; but, when Dr. Tucker put on a stethoscope at approximately the age of five, he never took it off. When he began his rotation at medical school, he was always fascinated with surgery. But, when it came time for a plastic surgery rotation, the creative aspect of working with each individual patient, whether reconstruction or aesthetic, combined his already artistic nature with the opportunity to practice great medicine.  There was no turning back. The little boy with the stethoscope evolved into the gifted surgeon.

Born in Bonne Terre, Missouri he graduated Cum Laude with a BA in Biological Sciences from the University of Missouri. He received his MD from the University of Missouri School of Medicine where he was also elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

A desire to accomplish his General Surgery Internship at NC Baptist Hospital/Bowman Gray School of Medicine brought him to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he also completed his Residency. To further his education and experience, he completed a Fellowship in Cleft Palate and Burn Reconstruction at Ranchos Los Angeles Medical Center, University of Southern California. But, his desire to return to Winston-Salem and work at the prestigious NC Baptist Hospital brought him back where he became first a Senior Assistant Resident in General Surgery, then a Junior Resident in Plastic Surgery, and then Chief Resident in Plastic Surgery, all of which gave him the training to begin his private practice.

His long list of accomplishments and affiliations includes, but is not limited to, Board Certification with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Inc., Alpha Omega Alpha, the North Carolina Chapter of American College of Surgeons, American College of Surgeons–Fellow, American Medical Association, North Carolina Medical Society, and North Carolina Surgical Association. He has also served as Chief of Plastic Surgery of Forsyth Medical Center and Medical Park Hospital, President of NC Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Tucker’s profession affords him the opportunity to do what he loves most, surgery and care for his patients. But, an appreciation of music and a gift for playing the guitar and singing also provides him a creative outlet with further community involvement as he has performed for many local functions and medical meetings. Creativity in the Tucker family is not solely assigned to him, however; as his gifted wife, a talented designer, actually personally designed the beautiful facility that is Salem Plastic Surgery, Inc. His lovely daughter lives in Florence, Italy and has a master’s in renaissance art history. Keeping fit is also important to Dr. Tucker so he is careful to include working out at the gym and extended time on the golf course as part of his schedule.

Being an active part of his patient’s care and progress has afforded Dr. Tucker the privilege to form relationships that have stood the test of time. It is not unusual for a former patient or relative to stop him and ask, “Do you remember me,” or Do you remember my loved one?” “You were such an important and positive influence in our treatment and care. I will never forget.” Comments such as those remind him why he established his practice in the first place; and, why the little boy never took off the stethoscope.
