What are the myths about Mommy Makeovers?

What is a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover is most often a tummy tuck, breast changes, and liposuction, but it is highly customizable and can be tailored to meet the needs of the individual patient. Since every patient’s anatomy and goals are unique, a mommy makeover should  meet each patient’s needs to help improve body contours, enhance confidence and achieve a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.

Common Myths vs. Facts

  • Myth: Mommy makeovers are only for mommies.

Fact: Patients who experience similar fluctuations and body changes with GLP-1 medications, aging or changes in metabolism may also benefit from procedures such as tummy tucks and breast lifts.—including men and women who have never had children.

  • Myth: A mommy makeover is just one single procedure.

Fact: It should be any  combination of procedures that helps a woman feel better about herself, whether that is the “normal” definition of a mommy makeover or varied to include injectables and skin treatments or other procedures.

  • Myth: It’s vain to have a mommy makeover.

Fact: Parts of the procedures offer real health benefits. A tummy tuck fixes diastasis recti (separated abdominal muscles), which helps reduce back pain and improve core strength.  Many moms feel nagging guilt about self-care, but sometimes self-care can boost self-confidence and allow them to feel better and more rested. In other words, a happier and more focused parent.

  • Myth: The recovery is long and painful.

Fact: Combining procedures makes it possible to have multiple recoveries overlapping at once.  Recovery periods vary for individuals and are dependent upon the procedures performed, but most patients are able to resume some light level of activity after a couple of weeks. Discomfort can be managed with prescribed medication and rest.
