The appearance of the body can be refined
and contoured using surgical
procedures that are very well tolerated.
Surgery
of the Abdomen
(Abdominoplasty
or "Tummy Tuck")
Generally referred to as a
"tummy tuck", abdominoplasty removes excess fat and skin from
the abdomen. The procedure also helps to flatten the abdomen by
tightening the surrounding muscles. Women with stretched abdominal
areas due to previous pregnancies can benefit considerably from
abdominoplasty, although they should have completed their
childbearing. Older individuals whose skin has lost some of its
elasticity and are slightly obese can experience an improvement in their
abdominal area.
If you are in generally good physical shape but are concerned about
abdominal fat deposits or loose skin that does not respond to diet and
exercise, the procedure can potentially reduce or even eliminate a
protruding abdomen. Abdominoplasty can produce a permanent scar
which can possibly extend to both sides of your hips, although the scar
will likely be located below the bikini or bathing suit line.

Thigh Lift
This
operation is done to tighten the loose skin of the thigh and buttock. It
does not change the texture of the skin but by stretching it the
crepiness is made less noticeable. Some patients are not candidates for
a thigh lift. Dr. Tucker will evaluate each case and decide if the
procedure is right for you.
The method of surgery is to undermine the skin and remove the excess.
The incision is placed around the upper thigh and buttock, usually in a
transverse direction. Many doctors recommend that some fat is suctioned
at the same time. The operation is done under a general anesthetic (you
are asleep). Most of the time this is an outpatient operation and a stay
in the hospital is not needed.

Liposuction
(Lipoplasy /
Suction Lipectomy)
Now among the most popular
cosmetic surgery procedures, liposuction (also known as "lipoplasty"
or "suction lipectomy") sculpts the body by removing
undesirable fat from areas around the thighs, knees, buttocks, waist,
hips, abdomen, chin, cheeks, neck and upper arms.
Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL), tumescent technique, the
super-wet technique, and Power assisted liposuction are among the
various techniques used to provide precise results.
Liposuction is
not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise, but the procedure can eliminate
areas of fat that are unresponsive to typical weight-loss methods.

Body
Lift
(belt lipectomy)
Also called circumferential torsoplasty,
panniculectomy and lipectomy, the body lift is performed to remove
excess skin and sometimes also fat from the torso and upper legs. It is
a complicated procedure that can take three to seven hours under general
anesthesia and involves a difficult recovery period of four to six
weeks.
Candidates
for body lifts typically either cannot lose significant amounts of
weight, or already suffer from loose (inelastic) skin on many or most
areas of the body as a result of age, childbearing or extreme weight
loss due to diet, exercise or bariatric surgery. Because of this, the
procedure is often combined with others such as breastlifts, facelifts
and armlifts to retain a proper body proportion. Body lifts can tighten
and tone the abdomen, back, buttocks, hips and thighs.
During the procedure, skin is lifted from
underlying tissue, muscles are tightened and stitched and fat is removed
where necessary, and the skin is sutured closed. The navel is often
removed and replaced in its new position. Surgical tubes may be needed
for a few days to drain any fluid, and patients may need to wear
compression garments for a few weeks to facilitate faster healing.
After surgery, patients are encouraged to
walk as soon as they are able, although strenuous activities must be
limited for about a month. Results are visible immediately.
